Shakmat

Shakmat is a Eurorack module maker based in Brussels, Belgium. Founder François Gaspard and designer Steve Hackx have worked together from the start, with engineers and musicians building modules as one team. Names draw on chess and weaponry, and the designs offer rhythm and timbre tools ready for live and studio use.

Percussion and filters are central to the lineup. Battering Ram is a kick synthesizer based on an original design by Marc Nostromo, with decay, tuning, click and drive controls spanning long subs to driven kicks. Archer's Rig combines a digital noise source with an analog filter and distortion for hi-hats. Dual Dagger is a stereo filter pairing low-pass and high-pass filters, while Bishop's Miscellany MK2 records and reworks stepped CV and gates.

The company describes its purpose as making modules that advance musical expression and creativity. Ideas begin with practical studio needs, bringing engineering and performance together.

At MODULARHABIT 2026, Battering Ram is a lucky draw prize.
